The Project:
The Shoal Lamp was designed to add a peaceful, visually soothing presence to a child’s bedroom. Its name plays on a double meaning—referring both to a shallow stretch of water and to a group of fish swimming in harmony.

Inspiration
Shoal was sparked by the mesmerising movement of a swirling school of salmon. As we bounced around ideas, more ocean elements found their way into the mix—like coral textures and rope netting. These details shaped both the story and the style of the piece.
We also made a conscious decision to work with what was available, letting natural tones of blue, green, and pearl white guide the final colour palette.
Mood & Intention
We wanted the design to feel calm, natural, and a little nostalgic, like the carefree joy of childhood adventures by the sea. The space is meant to invite relaxation, curiosity, and a quiet sense of connection to nature.
Materials & Functionality
Staying true to the project brief, we used recycled milk bottles and locally sourced bamboo as the core materials. We leaned into natural textures and sustainable choices to keep the look and feel organic.
The rope frame around the lamp ties everything together—literally and symbolically—linking the fish theme to fishermen and coastal culture in a simple but meaningful way.
